nooooooooo

While I'm working, I leave the television on something innocuous like Law & Order or random shows from Bravo. It relieves the quiet of 1am. Well not so much when they show a World Wildlife foundation commercial talking about how all the polar bears will die in my generation and how they are all starving to death. Then ten minutes later it was the ASPCA commercial with Sarah McLaughlin. Thank you TV for making me feel miserable in the middle of the night! The animal suffering really gets to me.

I always fast forward the ASPCA commercial... it gets to me, too. Which makes me wonder, why is there still such a huge problem of unwanted pets? I mean, I can understand people who grow up on a farm being less sentimental about animals, but how many family farms are there, really? Most of us urban and suburban types should be susceptible to these ads.

People in New York might've thought Leona Helmsley was nuts, but the amount of money in her foundation for dogs could, once they get up and running and have a decent administrative plan, provide for the free spaying/neutering and feeding of every unowned dog in America. Flinging enough money at a problem can fix it, and I think it's cool for her that this is the problem she wanted to fix.

That ASPCA commercial with Sarah McLaughlin makes me cry every time I see it.
