What a busy day. We went to the downtown Drafthouse for an afternoon showing of Cool Hand Luke, because Mike hasn't been exposed to enough mid-century nihilistic American cinema. They had a hard boiled egg eating contest. Hah! It was nice to see it on a big screen.
Afterwards, we continued our quest for a tree stand. Yesterday we picked up a a big Douglas fir. However four stores were either not carrying or completely out of Christmas tree stands. I much prefer Target over Wal-Mart, but I absolutely hate the transparent ploy of putting the seasonal section in the corner of the store as far as possible from the doors. Dashing through the crowd and not finding what I wanted left me out of breath and patience. Our Christmas tree had to spend the night in the garage in a bucket. After lots of prodding and twisting as well as the removal of an errant branch, the tree stood upright. It's enormous. We put on some lights haphazardly, and now I bask in the pine smell. This is my favorite part of the season. I love Christmas trees.
We visited Fry's to look at monitors. We found this beautiful 19" widescreen Samsung on sale, so it came home with us. Just doing our part to save the economy, I suppose. (Stephen and James went out and bought a gigantic television!) So with a new keyboard and a power supply, Mike fixed up the desktop sitting around the house and now I have a gaming machine.
Christmas cards have been written, gifts purchased, cats fed... it has been an extraordinarily busy day.

Date: 2008-12-08 02:42 pm (UTC)our tree is smaller than usual, but i really like the shape. dan put the lights on last night so it's ready for my glittered butterflies and flowers now. we're doing things different this year because of lucy's birthday. we ALWAYS use colored lights, but this year I thought white would look better. i run out to get the lights and some baking supplies adn GAH-- TARGET IS COMPLETELY OUT OF WHITE LIGHTS ON GREEN CORDS! what the heck? it's like 3 weeks before christmas! what is wrong with TARGET?????
*sigh* it was mayhem. i had the baby with me and the windchill was well below freezing. it was FRUSTRATING. the grocery store near target (which we'd walked over too , despite the damn wind), was out of white chocolate bars i needed for fudge and i just GAVE UP!!! well, i did go to michael's for the lights because i wanted that done ASAP.
even though target thwarted me, i still love target more than walmart! :)
