caturday

One of the things I love about December is the ready abundance of peppermint mochas. This Caturday I woke up and made some cupcakes, then ate cupcake batter for breakfast and wrapped a present. Now I have a cat sleeping on me, sending out sleep rays that prevent me from doing any other chores for now.

There's an orange and white cat I see at the mailbox. He's obviously been a pet, because he meows and comes right over for pets and scratches. He's desperately thin, and his nose is rubbed raw from fighting. When he follows me home I put out the last of Koshka's canned food. I tried to catch him the other day. While he will let me pick him up, he didn't want to go in the car. I feel overly hormonal or sensitive, because this situation makes me want to weep.

It feels like everything has been so busy and I'm so tired.

There's a cat hanging around my mailbox lately, too. He's awfully fat, though, so I can't tell if he's someone's pet or not. He's only been around for a week or so, so I don't know if he's just been abandoned or if someone in the complex has an outdoor cat. Why you'd have an outdoor cat in an apartment complex, I don't know, but there you go.

People are nuts. I found out yesterday the cat has a home, but people just don't care because they had a baby and got a dog. Ugh!

here, cats don't run wild. the bears and wolf-sized coyotes take care of the strays. i never thought i'd miss seeing feral cats, but the fact that austin is a hospitable enough place for them to survive is kinda nice.
