Torchwood, Children of Earth days one and two

We just finished Days one and two off the DVR. It will be a difficult week, getting through all this. I haven't watched any of the specials about the episodes or the Hub yet.

Shit, when they planted the bomb, did that kill their pet too? Bummer.

I like that Gwen is finally being shown as capable. I love her character, it is the character I most wish I could be. It's about damn time.

The scenes with Ianto's sister and brother-in-law are fantastic and so utterly realistic.

Wait, are you not spoiled?

No - I haven't read anything at all. It was HARD to avoid.

Though I have to admit that being trapped int he hospital helped some.

Okay, just... it's the most exhausting thing I've ever watched. I just want to warn you.

It's hard going day by day, but at least we can watch on the television.

Yeah. Oh -- did you watch on BBCA America Day 1? You need to know that in the exchange Ianto had with his family, they cut out the brother-in-law asking him if he was taking it up the ass. It seems trivial, but so much of Ianto's portrayal in the series is about his sexuality and power vs how others perceive it, and the misogyny (i.e., someone who like sot get fucked is weak and a woman) both in the line and in the line being cut matters.

I haven't watched any of the specials yet. Something about the way this is all organized in my DVR is making it hard to record alltogether. I have to go through and select each individual thing.

Ah, okay -- well not on the speciales, that's just from the first day of the series

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So I'm confused - did that line air on the regular BBC, and they cut it for the broadcast to BBCA? The exchange I saw reminded me very much of what it is like to be out in middle America.

I can't get up and about much, so I will probably spend some time reading back through the internets about it all. I'm so pissed though because I'm missing the HP feast and a concert.

Yes, that line was on regular BBC, and it was cut apparently because Walmart is sponsoring the show on BBCA.

Don't read anything until you watch the whole show -- spoilers and rage are everywhere.

The only thing I've read so far are your day by days posts and I haven't really gone into the comments.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay, so then you totally know what happens on Day 4.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No clue - I'm guessing there is some gut wrenching death. (I just read Days one and Two's posts since that is all I've seen so far. I was still in the hospital Monday so I couldn't watch the episode as it aired, so we doubled up last night.)

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
AhhaH! Now I get it. Let's just say at the end of Day 4 you'll think it can't get worse. It gets a lot worse.

I really want to write some Ianto fic that deals with his background, because I finally think I have some understanding there about why he is what he is, what it was like growing up and the tension of expectation.

Yeah.... that thing with him and his sister about his dad is so great
