I could weep, listening to Obama and watching his speech/press conference. The last time I heard a President be so articulate, so calm, so clear, I was a child. I hope this health care reform succeeds. The moment where he spoke about some Republican statements about blocking this to break him, where he said "Look this isn't about me. I have great health insurance and so do all the members of Congress." But gods above, listen. When was the last time you heard a President make sense or talk rationally or not make this an us against them argument?

If it didn't hurt, I would still be laughing at that!

I was really impressed that he'd touch that incident with a 10 meter cattleprod.

I was also grudgingly impressed that (at least as far as I know... was going into and out of rooms with TVs in them for the whole thing) none of the press dragged in Michael Jackson via a question about a national prescribed drugs database.

Even when I disagree with or get frustrated with him, I still look and him and go, "This guy is our president. Leader of the country. Him." Still doesn't feel entirely real.

I haven't watched it yet (not up on youtube), but the sad fact is that most people won't sit down and listen to what he said. They'll get all their info from journalists with a deadline chopping soundbites together, or commentators spinning the topic to their own point of view. It makes me angry to think that we have such a rational clear-headed man in office, but so many barriers between that and the public.

*keeping fingers crossed the reform keeps its fangs*

Minneapolis Rants & Raves on Craig's List is abuzz with arm chair politicians tonight. It's sick to read because the people who don't agree with him can't hang their hatred on anything but the color of his skin or the donkey that waves his party flag. It kills me there's no meat to their story, but they prefer to hurl insults.
