For what it's worth, I knew the name before the owl macro, but it still made me laugh, because it's just so perfectly apt here. I would feel the same way if she were named "Justin Sane" (ok, that was weak-- best I could do off the top of my head) or anything else that sounded like a pun about how bizarre she is, so I don't think it's about it being a foreign name.
But then again, I was also running around telling everyone that Palin meant "backward" in Greek, so maybe I'm just too amused by names for my own good.
