saxicolous [adj. sak-SIK-uh-lus]

If you like to live on or among rocks, then you are saxicolous. There are many kinds of saxicolous plants and animals, including lichens, mosses, various kinds of lizards, and cryptobiotic midges.

The word saxicolous comes from the Latin saxum (stone) plus -cola (inhabitant). Another word that means the same thing (and comes from the same root) is saxatile [SAK-suh-tile].

I need to sleep, I just read that and thought it said "...various kinds of lizards, and cryobioptic midgets."
