texting while driving

I sort of thought this whole texting while driving thing was some kind of cracky urban legend, like razor blades in apples at Halloween. Until some pretty boy in a BMW station wagon almost plowed into me this afternoon getting on the highway. He was merrily texting away on his iPhone.

Texting.
While driving.
While merging onto the highway on the ramp.

Seriously. What the fuck? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

I saw a guy texting while driving a motorcycle. I call that "natural selection waiting to happen."

I saw a news report where they had tested the reaction time of drivers texting, drivers talking on the phone and drunk drivers. Texting drivers had the worst reaction time, drunk drivers had the best. It's pretty scary that using your cell phone while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk and yet it is still legal, or at least the laws against it are not heavily enforced.

Local guy got himself killed doing that while driving a pickup truck during a rain storm. The texting makes people dumb.

I wouldn't mind seeing phones in all capacities outlawed in cars/bikes, etc. while driving. They could basically do what they did to Louisiana years ago when their drinking age was still 18--threaten to withhold highway funds unless they enforced the federal suggestion.

Hell, I had trouble steering my shopping cart yesterday while trying to use my new iPhone app that stores my grocery lists. Awesome app, saved me a lot of time, but reading while steering is a learned skill that I'm still, er, learning.

Oh my gosh, what is the name of that app? I have been trying to use the Notes application for grocery lists and it just isn't working well.

It's called My Shopping Lists, by Sudheer Parwana. It's not the most popular one by far (when I found and d/l'd it from the app store on the phone, the phone claimed it had 0 reviews), but it did almost everything I wanted without stupid crap I didn't want. If you just search 'shopping list' on the store you'll get a good half-dozen choices to browse through and pick what you'd like best.

One of my favorite things about this one is the ease of adding new items to the database, and the ability to organize the aisles of each of your stores. I went through HEB once instead of back and forth at least two or three times, and the only thing I bought that wasn't on the list had a yellow coupon hanging off it. Even with a super-organized hand-written list, I've never gotten such good results.

Also, note to self, I need an iPhone icon.

Here in California this time last year, a train operator was texting while driving and caused a devestating crash that killed a lot of people.

I barely understand how texting while driving is physically possible, let alone why a person with more than two brain cells would even entertain the idea.

i see this SO much around here...it's crazy making. like people aren't stupid enough....!!!! add in that everyone is just so CLOSE all the time here (at their homes, at stores, in cars, etc), it's just a recipe for disaster!
