We refinanced our house this evening. Our house purchase was really a profoundly lucky thing. We managed to buy something after the market went down a little but before they stopped giving out loans like candy. I don't think we would have been able to buy a house for ages otherwise. So our payments went down and we shaved a bit off the interest rate, so yay. It is sort of horrifying to think I might be paying this mortgage until I'm fifty nine. Waah.

The weather changed overnight. Yesterday it must have been ninety degrees and today it's rather chilly. It's nice though. I open up all the windows.

Since it was that kind of day, I did a lot of cooking. I made an unusual potato salad. I roasted some sweet potato chunks and a red onion, as well as a big poblano. The poblano I pureed with some garlic, olive oil, lime juice and salt. Then I mixed everything with some black beans and sliced bell pepper. I learned I dislike sweet potato but Mike likes it. Next time I'm going to use red potatoes.

The economics of it aren't in any doubt. The mortgage isn't any worse than the rent, and our utility bills are a third of what they were apartment living. We're lucky to both be free of any student loans. The only thing that bothers me is just the passage of time.
