I spent most of my day baking biscotti for the first time ever. They are all butterscotch pecan, but I doused half the batch with chocolate. (See them here) The recipe from King Arthur flour works very well and is pretty easy for such an involved cookie. It also looks easy to modify. I want to do some pistachio ones now, as well as a chocolate chip.

Right as I began, I endured a horrible paper cut. Actually a foil cut, since I cut myself on a sheet of foil. Brutal. Of course it is right on the crease of my index finger which makes it extra painful. My hands are dry from all the antibacterial soap I kept using since a bandaid won't stay in that spot.

All the biscotti are for Mike's presentation at work tomorrow. Food makes a presentation/work meeting 100% better right from the start. Especially delicious homemade fancy cookies.

I'm really craving a chocolate orange right now. I want to whack it on the table and break out the slices. Maybe I'll make some chocolate orange biscotti.

Currently reading Glen Cok's Black Company series. I may like this more than the Dread Empire series. Awesome stuff. Just amazing.

If you like Glen Cook, read Steven Erikson when you get a chance--he's like Cook on steroids.

I've been meaning to read those books for roughly 2o years.

Mmm, chocolate orange biscotti sounds wonderful!

Say, how hard is borscht to make? I've been craving something like it for days and Eric said he'd give it a try if it wasn't a big PITA. Got a good recipe you'd be willing to share?

I don't think it is any harder than most other soups, except for the roasting/cutting of the beets because that is messy. Let me see what recipes I have.

I just finished the Black Company series (I think, there may be more books, the story didn't seem complete.) I just picked them up randomly, and had never heard of him before, and I LOVED them. As soon as I finish the Joe Abercrombie book he just published, Best Served Cold, I'm going to read the rest of Cook's books.

Incidentally, have you read any of Joe Abercrombie's books? He has three other books that I read last year and I think you'd really like his style.

I think there are seven or eight Black Company books. Then he has two other series and a few stand alone novels.

I haven't read Abercrombie - thanks for the tip. I will put him on the list.
