I can't count the number of times I'm reading a review where someone has written "wallah!" or "walla!" lately. Unsurprisingly I see this mostly on Wal-Mart and Sam's Club's stuff. This is so petty but it makes me want to jump up and shout It's French you numbskulls, and it's voilĂ  damn it. Though apparently in common English usage the accent mark is dropped. For bonus points, wallah is a Hindi word for worker.

Seriously. I am a product of public education in a state that really doesn't care about providing quality education and even I know that.

In other news, yes, my back still hurts.

I just spent five minutes trying to figure out what "wallah" would even mean in real English (getting distracted by things like dishwallah). Disturbing when I realized they mean Voila!

Isn't it weird? The first several times I was so confused, but I finally parsed it out. At first I thought it was some baby talk version of "ta da!"
