Small plane crashes into office buildings at 183/Mopac

Mike said they could see the smoke from the top floor of his office, several miles away. All the traffic is shut down due to the vast swarm of emergency vehicles. What the fuck?

Edit: the local news is in hysterics. There's F-16s flying around overhead. The parts that scare me are the people who were on the very high overpasses at the highway interchange, talking about the plane going right over them, feeling the wave of heat shaking their cars... I was just telling Mike last night how much I hate those overpasses and driving on them.

Edit again: the house fire about a mile away from me is apparently the pilot's house. There's a crazy post floating around on the net talking about the evils of the IRS and various other agencies, advocating violence as the only solution.

Edit the third: Despite the large scale of the damage, the only confirmed death so far is the pilot. Two people have serious burns, but there hasn't been any wave of casualties. Small favors, I suppose.

This entire thing is so scary and weird. I woke up from horrible fucked up nightmares to this.

I can't believe more people weren't killed or injured, given the force of the explosion. And for anyone driving on that portion of the access road at the time - damn. How scary.

The news here is obviously talking about it, too, but I hate when they make a big deal out of an aspect that is really irrelevant--that the pilot took off without filing a flight plan--when it's not required for small aircraft if the weather is good.

Seriously - the fixation on that is such an annoyance. Like filing a flight plan would have made ANY difference, because I'm sure he would have noted "flying into a building" on it.
