Fun day at work. Learned to price things, and hopefully I am doing well. Worked two hours at the register that went smoothly aside from one screwed up transaction. I don't mind working the register so much, except when it's horrendously busy.

My sections are all coming into order nicely, and I am quite pleased. Spent a lot of time working on the cookbooks today, and I think that's what I will focus on when I get Saturday.

Looking forward to having a day off already. Though it might be a bit strained since Karen's lame duck boy just flew away. I knew there was a reason I didn't like him, why his comment made me so angry and stuck with me. One of those out of the blue, inexplicable break-ups. She's very sad, and it hurts to see her this way. It provokes that weird sense of chivalry in me, that I should perhaps go challenge this boy to a duel or something.

Made use of my employee discount, three days into the job. A book on the history of cereal, which is fun reading already, and an old book about the Baptist beliefs for my grandfather. It will make a smashing birthday present.

Cerealizing America
by Scott Bruce and Bill Crawford.
Published in 1995 by Faber & Faber.

So far it's quite amusing and interesting reading. Good luck hunting for it. I recommend trying any local used bookstores. :)

Wow! I've almost completed my training period and I only barely know how to price things, and I still only have one section. Maybe my store is just more in need of someone to work the register than yours. :)

When is your day off?

My day off is today! Yay for Friday.

Sounds like they're taking it easier on you than with me. ;) It's a madhouse in there.

Working in a bookstore sounds like so much fun...although I'd probably spend what I made on books...so librarian would be a better choice for me, I suppose. I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying yourself!! Once you get over the hectic bustle of school starting again and have an idea what your schedule will be like, let me know. Maybe I can sneak over one afternoon. : )

Oh do come visit! That would be fun.

The library would definitely be easier on the wallet, but oh the horror stories I've heard from friends. The guy who built the fort out of books, the frat boys trying to get laid while studying, the guy who didn't understand why his laptop was gone from the table when he came back from an hour lunch break... eep.

Those I suppose I'll get those at work, I haven't seen any truly freaky customers yet.

Yeah, but apparently 05 has the most crazies because we're halfway between the university and the mental hospital.

Which says a lot for our employees, too.

Anything on Guadalupe draws the weirdos I think. Damn street. I find myself losing patience and humor with that element of the Drag and beyond. Just too many years I suppose, seeing the same people, the same things over and over.

Maybe I'm not as jaded, but I love to sit at Mojo's and people-watch. So many weird, lovely freaks on the Drag.

There are a lot of people. And a lot of friendly, intelligent wonderful folks who wound up on the streets for some reason. I try to talk to people, to be friendly, to acknowledge them.

But I have no patience aymore for kids from the suburbs who come down and "pretend" or people dealing drugs or hassling folks for no good reason.

That's true, but I guess there will always be poseurs and jerks anywhere, and I'm just used to it.
