Well, I am thirty. My job annoys me. My skin till breaks out in spots. But I have cake.

Watched Downfall this evening, which was tense and I think really interesting. At the time it came out, I recall there being a lot of press devoted to the question of whether or not we should attempt to "humanize" Adolph Hitler and other Nazi leaders. I can't say this portrait is terribly sympathetic of anyone. Goebbels especially, and his wife. Cold, cold, soulless creatures they seemed.

The marigolds bloomed. I was expecting them to be orange but they are yellow.

The farm share was full of strawberries and blackberries and peaches. Mmm pie time.

Also, LJ, wtf is with the changing it so I only see ten entries on my friendslist? It took me five minutes to fix, but I still find it deeply annoying and now if I go to read a community I am forced to deal with this if they haven't fixed it. Ugh. Not everyone has the attention span of a gnat.

Also, I will finally admit I find twitter far superior to facebook. At least twitter isn't pretending to be more meaningful than it is. Or perhaps I am just enjoying the BPGlobalPR guys way too much. But I would rather just have twitter than the dreadful book of faces.

How do you fix the ten entries thing? It's driving me nuts too!

http://www.livejournal.com/customize/

Scroll down to the bottom and hit the "customize selected theme" button. Scroll down to Presentation, and there is an option to specify the number of journal entries you want displayed on your page and on your friendslist.

SO ANNOYING LJ!

Thanks!
Now I'm going to wander off and find news to see if they explain why they made the silly change...

I found the breakouts got WORSE after 30. Or maybe that just goes with the stress levels.

I really enjoyed Downfall as well. It was sobering and visceral, without a lot of the sugar-coating or even most of the vilifying that usually accompanies any WWII Nazi movie. Have you seen The Counterfeiters? Another fantastic WWII movie.

Ugh and here I was hoping maybe the arbitrary border would slow them down! Boo.

I haven't seen that one but I will put it in my Netflix queue. I'm really interested in how movies about WWII will develop over the next few decades as we move further away from that time, people die and the taboos change.

Already there's been a big shift in what is considered "acceptable" - I feel that movies like Downfall would never have been made even 10 years ago. I'm curious to see what will develop from this.

Oh my God, the Goebbelses, the scene with the children. And then at the end knowing they sugar-coated the secretaries' utterly horrific fate at the hands of the invading Russian army. I had to go back and rewatch Wings of Desire just to see Bruno Ganz playing someone sweet and kind (I have a sort of "Will you be my imaginary dad?" crush on him so Hitler was rather a change of pace).

"Also, I will finally admit I find twitter far superior to facebook."

I hate Facebook and am seriously considering deleting my account despite basically being told I "should" be over there. Twitter and Tumblr are so much more fun.

The whole time I watched that scene I was wondering "Did he make her do all that himself, was he too afraid to do it, was she trying to prove something?" It really unnerved me.

Yeah I kind of wanted to say to the screen - oh yes she disappeared without a trace in a tunnel with a pair of Soviet soldiers! dfsaohjfdhjkgashjksaghjkgsajkgjkb

Bruno Ganz did such an amazing job, I can't even imagine what that must have been like for him.

Why are they making a movie about facebook? WHYYYYYYYYY?
