Driving to work, up that one lane ramp that connects Mopac and 183, I wondered if I was going to die or perhaps be transformed in some mystical way. Not a morbid thought but something just strange. The song on the radio, the grey sky, the feeling that I was driving right up into the clouds... in the parking lot of the bokostore, I heard "Name," special perhaps only because of the time and place it was first listened to.

we've grown up way too fast
and now there's nothing to believe
reruns all become our history
a tired song keeps playing on a tired radio
and I won't tell no one your name

Work was good. Thankfully I missed meeting the corporate bosses who stopped by this morning. Much work in the cooking section, and my manager complimented me on how nice it looked.

Went to the Showdown afterwards with a couple of my coworkers. They had been roller skating earlier. Had a beer and talked about music and random things, it was quite nice.

My Reflect.com stuff arrived today, new shampoo and conditioner. They sent me a shiny purple candle in a tin too. I like them quite a lot.

I never unsubscribed to that wedding mailing and I keep getting messages that say stuff like "22 weeks to go!" and it just makes me sad. I wanted it I really did and it hurts to know it probably wasn't the right decision to make at the time.

Need to go to bed soon for all the things I must do tomorrow. Too awake to be tired.

i used to sigh up for lots of contests and some would require things like registering for their site. i've been a bride-to-be and a mom-to-be and a business class traveler and a homeowner. all sorts of things. never got the reminders though-- i wonder if they can detect lying :)

you are so young, you should not be sad :)

Hehe, lucky you. No continuing emails from advertising lists.

I heard a rumor that Boots, the corporate halfprice overfiend was in town. I wonder if she'll stop by our store, or if she already has?

She stopepd by our store in the morning before I got there. I think the visit was for Monday and Tuesday, so she has already been by. I'm kinda glad I missed that, I really don't like meeting big bosses or parents of people I don't really know.

Everyone I've heard talk about her says she is really nice and friendly, although she is known for criticizing the head of the children's section if it's messy.

Of course, it's always messy. Kids do that.

I think you are definitely ready for school to start--and not a moment too soon. What will you be reading this semester--Gogol? Turgenev? Chekhov?

I have had those death thoughts on Mopac too, but mainly when I abruptly wake from my daydream to realize the car in front of me has slammed on its brakes. Be strong, friend.

No Russian lit this semester. Probably some Czech things, fairy tales, short stories, a play. We're going to have a Czech play! Whee. I haven't found out which one yet.

The strangest thing about that moment on Mopac was the sense of peace, of utter calm and stillness within. That never happens. And certainly not when I feel like I'm in danger of losing my life. It was just an eerie moment. Like I half expected God to reach right through the clouds or something equally fantastic and unbelievable.
