We listened to NPR in the car yesterday, driving to the Alamo. I can't remember the last time the news was good.

I've settled upon a simple schedule for the next quarter. It will involve getting up earlier but I hope it will actually increase my free time by getting all my work out of the way faster.

The hospital called today. I have to go do bloodwork on Friday. The person on the phone encouraged me to take my Xanax.

Dinner tonight will be potato leek soup with Swedish meatballs. I kind of want to go to IKEA and stock up on lingonberry everything. Need to bake some pies. I want to make a pie for Mike to take to work on Monday since their team from Berkley is visiting. Maybe I'll go crazy and do two - I kind of want to make a key lime pie.

My tree continues to delight me. I have obtained a stack of paperbacks to read for the rest of the month. Currently reading a bizarre memoir of a Soviet spy.

Peppermint mochas are my favorite December caffeine. I know I can get them all year round, but I only really enjoy them when it is cold. The rest of the time I just want a latte.

Work hiccups has straightened out, so I suppose I should get cracking on that.

I bet it was the leeks. Are you using the entire leek? The more green top end tends to get slimy. I chop that off and save it for something else and just use the body/underground leek portion for soup.

The way I make it is with about five pounds of potato chopped up with three or four big leeks. I put in 3-4 cups of water, and some salt and let simmer covered for about an hour. Then I smash everything in the pot with a whisk. Add a stick of butter and a cup of cream, maybe a little more cream or milk if it feels too thick. Simmer on low for another half hour or so. Add bacon crumbles.
