My new favorite animal is the wereswan. I have decided this based on Aronofsky's comments about Black Swan being a story of transformation.

Yesterday I ordered sushi delivery - it was okay, took too long to get here and was too expensive for something that didn't wow me. I have yet to have any dining experience connected to the Domain that pleased me really.

We watched Repo Men last night. You know, the creepy organ repo guys in the weird, dystopian future. It made me sad. A couple days earlier we watched Scott Pilgrim and I was distinctly underwhelmed. The visuals, the aesthetic of the movie, the music - those parts were pretty fun and delightful. But I couldn't find any reason to care about the characters. I felt bad for Knives and sort of hated almost everyone else. Maybe if I had read the books first. But I just could not care about Scott or Ramona, which was weird. I love Michael Cera so i felt confused by my inability to really connect with this movie.

Today I am feeling a bit better. Less pained and more sore. It is still almost impossible to bend from the waist.

I am 90% sure I wrapped the books I meant to be reading in one of Mike's Christmas presents. Damn it!

I look forward to your thoughts! It was so intense and I loved it more than I thought possible.

It's the emotional suckerpunch of the year and so creepy. I love it so much.

I have not read the Scott Pilgrim books either. I didn't like many of the characters, but I think that's part of the point. Scott is supposed to be a jerk and I think Ramona is supposed to be shallow. In fact, the only character I did like was Jenny?/the angry girl with glasses and maybe the drummer. I did like the movie, I only saw it once in the theater, but the video game tropes were enough to make it for me.

Well it makes a lot more sense if you aren't supposed to like them. I think I have an aversion to female characters who fall into that manic pixie dream girl category, with their colored hair and stripes and OMG!tragic histories.

The video game tropes and the way they presented them on screen were fantastic though. I loved that part immensely. Also, the vegan police thing was hysterical.

Yeah, again I'm not an expert - but I felt the same way about the leads in the movie as you do. I was all like, "Who would want to date some girl with these many crazy exes, and what the hell did she do to them to make them so mad?" Seriously, do you want to be ex number 8?
I don't know if I want to invest the time to read the books to see if my hunch is right.

But yes, the movie is so pretty I might buy it to see it again.

Sometimes I'm amused by how divergent our interests are.

I've deliberately avoided Scott Pilgrim because I want to punch Michael Cera in the face repeatedly. I'm so over him as a character. George Michael Bluth = thumbs up. George Michael Bluth versions 2.0-whatever number we're on now = lame.

Hahaha. I think my liking for Cera has a lot to do with how much he reminds me of someone I went to school with - they have an odd resemblance.

But seriously, you should see True Grit. It's freaking bad ass and beautiful. Do you like Westerns? There are so many good Westerns.

I don't really love westerns, and I really don't like John Wayne so I haven't seen the original True Grit. However, I really want to see the new one because I love, love, love Jeff Bridges.

I watched Scott Pilgrim a couple of days ago and had a similar response. Fun film, but little substance. Scott is pretty unlikable, his relationship with Ramona makes no sense, and Knives is the only sympathetic person really.

I'd really like to see that fun video game reference/visual style used on a story I found related to more!

I felt the same way about Scott Pilgrim. I think it was one of those cases where the movie tries to summarize the book so much that the point of the story gets lost. I felt similarly watching one of the later Harry Potter films.

I still need to see Black Swan. Grr on Shannon for seeing it without me already! (I'm dragging her with me anyway.)

Yeah, the later Potter movies have a hard time of it. There's just so many little stories.

I think Black Swan will stand up to repeated watching!
