Watching old episodes of South Park often reminds me of wacky things, like when people got so worked up over the nudity and profanity on NYPD Blue. While I think getting rid of cable was ultimately a good thing for me and I'm much less inclined to use the television as a sort of background noise to everything, I do sometimes miss the random discoveries of movies channels. I never would have gotten so fascinated by Korean cinema without IFC.

Mike is being super productive again today. He's installing a vent and a cat door tot he closet with the litterbox, so our library won't be quite so pungent at times. I should probably do something useful like take down the Christmas lights. I did manage to do a little closet clearing, ran the robot and cleaned the kitchen sink today. We even went to the grocery store. I always regret not purchasing cookies.

Currently reading some Vampire Hunter D novels. My DVDs are missing. I hope I've just loaned them to someone and they will eventually come back. I tried to start reading this steampunk zombie novel but I'm sad to admit it is boring the hell out of me.

For Yuletide this year, I only managed one story due to the recovery from surgery. But I think it turned out well and it was fun to revisit the source. I always think Gail on Profit develops this sisterly sort of affection for her creepy boss and in What's Best For Gail? I tried to show that side of her. One of my favorite episodes is "Chinese Box" which inspired the story. Gail interviews and is turned down for a promotion and Profit starts seriously grooming her to take more risks and initiative. The recipient loved it, which is always a great part of Yuletide.

i am always initially really excited about all things steampunk, but i haven't quite discovered anything that hasn't been somewhat of a let down. still hoping that something will pop up that promises the things i so want steampunk to embody (i don't really know myself what i'm expecting from it).

also, i really like this korean film... the tale of two sisters... i don't know if all korean cinema is as surreal or artsy as this movie, but if you haven't seen it, i highly recommend it. :)

Have you read Bruce Sterling & William Gibson's The Difference Engine? It's quite good and probably the classic of the genre.

Tale of Two Sisters sounds like it has a style similar to The Spider Forest which is super creepy.
