The amount of hostility generated in reviews of lettuce seeds I'm reading this morning is astounding. I can't imagine there is any reason to get so worked up over lettuce.
Oh yes, people do find the silliest things to get all bent out of shape about. Lettuce included!
Are you looking for lettuce seeds? Black Seeded Simpson is a good variety of leaf lettuce for the Austin area. Very prolific, and if you let it go to seed at the end of the season, you'll a) never have to buy seed again and b) it will reseed itself amazingly well. In fact, I am about to declare lettuce (and basil) a weed in my garden. Not that I'm pulling any up, mind you, except to eat. LOL!
I read your garden posts with some envy because I can't grow plants to save my life. I'm terrible at it. I planted a small tree in our front yard and I think the only reason it survived was because I accidentally planted too deep so it made it through the horror summer we had in 2009. I did manage to kill the beautiful rose of sharon bush in the backyard though, which makes me terribly sad.
The lettuce crossed my path because my work assignment today involved a gardening center client. It makes a nice break from reading about televisions and dresses and baby furniture.
