On Sunday night, the weather forecasts were almost gleeful, telling us that the high pressure dome would shift and some rain could come through. There were little animated storm clouds on the weekend, and 60% chance of rain. It was painfully optimistic. The little storm clouds aren't up anymore and the most optimistic chance is now pegged at 20%. (But we might rejoice to have high temperatures of only 100, right?) It is sort of creepy and unsettling to watch the swirls of green on the radar evaporate as they come near. Like living in some terrible science fiction weather control story gone wrong.

I can't get any writing done. Writing anything fun or cheerful just stalls. Maybe I should give up and just write the story where everyone goes insane because there's no water. I just end up wanting to lay in bed and cry, or sleep until it gets dark.

My damned grocery store has held empty shelf spaces for weeks now. There's a sign that says jaffa cakes and no jaffa cakes. How long does it take to stock the damn shelf?

Seriously, I read some article last night where meteorologists talked about the tropical storm that just evaporated over the course of 15 hours when it hit Texas earlier this summer. They were perplexed.

How wrong is it that I'm looking forward to Atlanta and Dragon*Con for a change in the weather?

I took a meteorolgy class from Troy Kimmel, and he told us any forecast more than 48 hours out is essentially a Wild-Ass Guess.

Maybe that's why I like meteorology as a science, the complete ridiculous unpredictable factor. One of the guys from ABC I think spoke to my 6th grade class and was hilarious.

If you see any of those Dragon Age sword letter openers, I totally want one.

Every time I watch a news report, our chances of rain seem to get slimmer. Now it's only a 20% chance on Saturday and Monday. I'm just going to count on there not being any rain at all. I knew better than to get my hopes up when they initially said 60%.

And the verbal parts of my brain have simply dried up and turned to dust. Every time I try to write, the only thing bouncing around in my head is "My gods, it's hot! Make it stop!" I'm ever so thankful the artsy bits of gray matter are still working, because if I didn't have that either, I'm pretty sure I would have lost my mind about a month ago.

Yeah those forecasts felt like being jabbed with a stick. I sometimes think the weather crowd is really bored, based on the twitter comments.

I've been playing a lot of video games this summer. It requires staying inside. Sometimes it even rains in the games and I get excited for a moment.
