On Sunday we went to the annual LOTR marathon. It has been five years since I met Mike there. One of the girls sitting next to us got a note of some kind from someone else in the crowd, delivered by one of the servers. One can only hope it is love. Super head chef John Bullington said that when The Hobbit comes out, they are probably going to add it to the line and make the marathon even longer. (Apparently John Bullington got his job at the Drafthouse by pitching the idea of the seven course Hobbit feast. So, thanks Mr. Bullington for helping to bring Mike and I together.) The food was so good this year. So good. Ever year that tea course with the salad and pork cheese galette and tea cookies gets even more delicious.

Yesterday I mostly slept, to recover from my seven courses and seven fabulous drinks. I made some dinner but that was about it. Today I'm trying to do a few chores and maybe exercise a little. We have this fabulous electric duster that is about five thousand times more useful than any canned air stuff for cleaning. The only thing I might change is giving it a longer cord. I use it to dust places I can't reach, because it is quite powerful. It will blow all kinds of stuff around, as I discovered after blowing some earrings and pens and my spare glasses off my computer earlier.

I had not checked the mail in days, and the box was stuffed. I ordered Mike something completely absurd and it arrived. Plus! Plus there was a book from my Yuletide book swap partner! The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers. I know nothing about it, but I am so excited. Plus! There was a Yuletide robot in the card. (I may have started drawing robots on some of my holiday cards this morning...)

Mike brought home flowers a couple days ago, and they are all blooming big yellow and purple and white petals. I like to glance over and see them.

As a present for some younger cousins, Mike & I adopted some bats at the Bat World Sanctuary. You get a folder full of bat factoids and a matted picture of your bat. How awesome is that? You can also donate to BCI's bat programs and receive a plush bat, if you want a toy. Defenders of Wildlife lets you adopts all sorts from bats to bison to sea turtles and leopards.

I think it's terrific that your meeting with Mike was fannish - happy five years (and many many more to come)

I love the idea of adopting a bat - I may have to do that myself.

One day we'll be an urban legend and people will have to look us up on Snopes - yes, grandkids, there was once a couple who met at a Lord of the Rings marathon.

Be warned! The bat stories are heart tugging! I was very sniffly.

It is one of the coolest things in the world. It takes all day. They run the extended editions of the first two. (A 35mm print was never made of the extended third, so we make do with the theatrical ROTK) There are seven courses served through the films.

First breakfast is eggs, mushrooms, nice crispy bacon and some orange. (Paired with a mimosa) Second comes a bowl of magnificent strawberries with thick cream and a drizzle of honey. (Paired with mead) Then it is one to a nice plate of sausages, cabbage, cheese & some kind of root vegetable with a brown ale. Then comes the astonishingly good roast lamb with glazed carrots, mashed potato and a heavenly meaty reduction sauce served with Guinness. Next is the tea course, where you can choose to add a shot of whiskey to your tea. The plate has an arugula salad with blackberry vinagerette, a salted pork and cheese galette & tea cookies - one sugar and one spice. Then it is on to a bowl of coney stew served with cider. Last course is a tomato and spinach soup, served with a slice of apple pie and a glass of champagne. Plus, lembas bread whenever you want. (I ate three!)
