What did you think of Tinker Tailor Solder Spy? I so want to go see that.

I really enjoyed it. It is very demanding. There's no place where you can sneak out to the bathroom. It's very spare on building character, but it has an amazing period feel. There's a certain lack of tension which I find peculiar, but I think this movie really plays for the understated in everything.

Oh man, Tinker, Tailor was great. Though I think it might have been more than a little confusing for anyone who hadn't read the book - it jumped around a *lot* in the first third or so.

Have you seen the BBC TV version they did years ago? It has Alec Guiness as Smiley and is awesome.

I have actually never read the book, but it is on my list of things to read now. I have a deep and abiding fondness for Cold War spy stories. I will also have to see this BBC version.

The costuming alone made me gleeful. So much detail!

Read the book! It's easily one of the top five Cold War spy novels ever written (another one by le Carre, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold is on there too).

Tinker, Tailor has two sequels, but you can skip The Honorable Schoolboy and go straight to Smiley's People, which provides a nice wrap-up of the whole thing. And there's a BBC production of that too.

I might, hypothetically, in some possible world, have access to a digital copy of both series, as well as means of distribution for it. But obviously I would never do such a dastardly thing as to combine them!

My knowledge of spy novels is sadly limited! I must rectify this. Books!
