I wish I had video editing skills that didn't reside in 1999. Because I really, really want some Vampire Hunter D fanvids set to Funker Vogt's "This World."

Add it to the pile of things I should learn to do one day. Along with SQL, but video sounds so much more fun than SQL database work...

Edit: A friend asks below is anyone knows of any decent free video editing software? I know some folks on my flist vid for fandom, so if you have any suggestions about free/inexpensive software please share. Thanks!

You don't happen to know of any decent free video editing software do you? I'm still using Windows Movie Maker.

I don't off the top of my head. But I've edited my post and hopefully someone will have an idea! Because that's a good question.

Filmmaker here. When I work with post production houses, I'm forced into using software that accommodates their Apple-philic setups. However, I've recently begun a similar search for freeware that isn't as bloaty and lumbering as Adobe, Avid, FC, etc, at least for projects that are going to be finished on my own computer.

What I've found is that the GNU/Linux community are the only people seriously looking into that sort of thing. Obviously we have GIMP/Audacity for Photoshop/Pro Tools analogs, but so far their isn't a video equivalent that runs on Windows or Macs (without major tech-savvy tweaking, at least).

http://flossmanuals.net/ () has a list, under Video Tools, of various programs that do various kinds of video editing. None of them are going to be as intuitive or user-friendly as the big box stuff (the way of freeware). I am not a GNU/Linux person myself, but I am seriously considering biting the bullet and learning so that I can take advantage of the video and audio editing operating system they've come up with, dyne:bolic.

That might be more muscle and headache than you're thinking about/looking for. In that case, see if this works for you — http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/video-editing/2057-avid-free-dv.html

It's a free version of Avid DV that they released once (but no longer offer), available at this site (with registration). Avid Free DV if you want to google.

Good luck!

Thanks very much for these, I'll try the Avid software I think. Unfortunately I don't have anything like enough time to invest in learning about Linux, at least at the present time, but maybe it's something I can work up to in future.
