So tonight I saw Covenant, in the midst of a packed crowd at Elysium. It was everything I wanted and more. They are so vibrant and alive up there.

The second song they played was "Bullet." That was the one thing I wanted to hear more than anything else, so I was delighted. But then there was a crazy beautiful version of "Ritual Noise" as well that thrummed right through me, and the magic of the entire crowd singing "One World, One Sky." They reminded us to love and asked us where we are going. "Lightbringer" was absolutely screaming loud and intense. When they played "Stalker" I went nuts. So many good songs. Even in the crowd I managed to dance until my clothes were soaked in sweat. We threw our hands in the air and gave them our noise. It is hard to describe the sort of intense communion I find in live music like this, where it feels like the band and the crowd are all in together sharing a voice and a heartbeat. There is nothing else like it.

The encore ended with the most banging, glorious version of "Dead Stars" I could ever have hoped to hear. I like that song, but this was an entirely new level of amazing that made it a thousand times better. They closed it singing out the line "it's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine." I could not have dreamed of anything that good.

The after show DJ played my favorite VNV Nation song and I could have cried for joy.

I am tired, my feet ache and I'll probably feel wrecked tomorrow. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.

that sounds amazing. I've joyfully danced to their music so many times, it must be something else entirely to see them live.

It was a singular event. I didn't have any real expectations and they completely blew me away.
