I thought a lot about trying to find something to do for 2014, something that would make me a better person or more creative or more mindful... you know, all those awesome things you see very dedicated people doing. I decided to make little origami cranes, because often doing something with my hands is a good antidote to my continuous anxiety.

Of course this project was derailed by being incredibly, violently ill on New Year's day. So I've decided as long as I end up with the right number at the end, I can do them in batches.

Eventually I hope they will be less clumsy and more graceful. But here are the first four of the year. I think I might keep them all in a giant iced tea jar.

Flight for sanity!

I celebrated my birthday by getting a prescription for Citalopram. After 2013, I'm determined to have more control over my life in 2014.

Step one = meds. Step two = ? Step three = profit.

Flight for sanity! I hope they get less crooked as the year goes on.

Better living through chemistry. Amen to that.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Is the jar glass? They would be beautiful in a glass jar. More pictures as the project progresses please! =)

It is a big glass jar, with some painted fruits on it. I'll have to get Mike to pull it down from the high shelf for me. I shall try to keep the project updated with photos once a week or so.

They're lovely! I so admire you for being able to do that - I'm impatient and stumble-fingered.

I am too - it is not very easy. But I bought some pretty paper that has kimono patterns to I intend to at least see this packet through!

Excellent! I haven't made any cranes... I always feel like you can't be considered remotely serious about origami until you've made at least 50 cranes.
That's lovely paper too.

Cranes and little samurai hats are the only things I know how to make! I considered learning some new stuff but then thought it would be classic to just do cranes. (I totally envy your spaceship.)

Somewhere in a box I still have an amazing origami flower my friend Gene made for me out of a page of an essay.
