all ready to go
Jan. 22nd, 2014 01:34 pmIn my ongoing effort to find some way to eat fruits and vegetables more often, I decided to give the old smoothie/juice route a try. I bought a bunch of fruits and vegetables and sandwich bags. An hour or so of chopping and dividing gave me a dozen servings of various sorts of smoothie ingredients ready to throw into a blender. I discovered yesterday our blender, which I'm not sure I've ever actually even used, can't handle chunks of frozen fruit and made an unpleasant burning plastic smell. So hopefully the new one will be here by tomorrow. I briefly entertained the idea of buying a crazy expensive blender from work and then I came to my senses.
I'm modifying recipes a little, mostly because I don't like yogurt/dairy so much as an ingredient. I'm using a mix of unsweetened coconut & almond milk as well as passion fruit juice instead. Some packs are just strawberries & coconut. Some are apples, spinach & ginger, and some of those have bonus blackberries. There's some pineapple and spinach ones too.
The local Girl Scout organization changed their cookie supplier this year. Apparently there are two big companies that make all the Girl Scout cookies. Sadly this other supplier makes an inferior cookie. They really aren't as good this year. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why. I suspect just lower quality ingredients. Disappointing but I suppose this means I'm only going to eat one box of Thin Mints this year.
My hip still aches. Nothing new there. I'd really like this to get better so I can go back to dancing. I'm going to start looking for a gym with many heavy objects for lifting.
Still making cranes. Some are better than others.

Date: 2014-01-23 04:07 pm (UTC)That crazy expensive blender would make AMAZING smoothies, if you like a super-smooth texture. Also on the list of things you wouldn't believe the difference it makes, potato-leek soup. My crazy friend bought one, and even though we work from the same recipe his soup is velvety perfection, and mine is, well, soup. Rick is fussy about texture and actually doesn't care for velvety perfection, or I'd have been bugging you to let me use one of your monthly appliance buys to get one. :)

Date: 2014-01-23 07:13 pm (UTC)We have the 200, the 300 and the 750 models up at the store. They are pretty swank. I think the soup blending feature is probably pretty awesome. I like my things not totally blended but I'm a weirdo.
Anytime you feel like fancy kitchen stuff, you know where I am! We got this gorgeous cake stand today that I'm so tempted to buy even though it is pricey. It is a nice jade green.
