winter light
Washed clean blue sky, and I want to leave work to change clothes and dash through the sunshine lighter than thought or sound. It's gorgeous out there.
Spoke to C. on the phone last night, we've been playing phone tag for days. It's funny, when the ice storm destroyed the power lines, and I tried to restart my answering machine the tape started spinning madly. When I pressed PLAY I heard a recorded phone conversation from my freshman year of high school, '94 or '95, between C. and myself. I can't wait to see him again.
Something inspired by Cate. A bit of reflection on my year.
Best Present I Recieved: My grandparents paying half my tuition for the spring
Best Present I gave: Taking Karen out to a fancy dinner
Favorite Book Read This Year: The Life of Insects by Victor Pelevin
Accomplishment: Learning to live on my own
Rediscovery: The absolute joy in being myself
Daily Joys: reading books, breathing, the sky
Most Interesting Classes: Major Novels of Dostoevsky, Czech language
New Friends: Karen & Melynda, my slightly insane adorable co-conspirators
Saddest Moment: Learning my grandfather has Parkinsons, realizing my parents & grandparents are getting older
Still Bothers Me: The utter ignorance of some people
New Skills: Cross stitch, Czech
Still Need To: Improve my Russian, learn more Czech, get to Prague
For the first time in so many years, I'm looking forward to celebrating New Year's day. It may help that I have quite a fabulous date but I digress... actually I am enjoying living, enjoying being me. I'm happy. God, it's so strange to say that. I'm happy.
Wishing everyone out there happiness today, and for the year to come.
