machine love
Jan. 9th, 2001 12:53 pmFor the first time in my life, I've actually enjoyed driving. Strange as it sounds to anyone who knows me. But I was in the car today, on the curve of 183, shifting into 70 with the music on and I felt the oddest sense of enjoyment. I think I understand why people lust for shiny fast cars now.
If I had a machine, an incredible responsive tactile machine that I could use with the utmost precision and grace, I would drive more. Metal and glass, power and speed. Thinking now I should sign up for that journalist driving course where they teach you how to outrun cops and mobsters when you work overseas. Cause I need to know how to drive when someone is shooting at me, I need to know how to run road blocks and all that. Of course.
This is why people love machines. Cars, guns, computers. The power of something cold and solid in your hand. The sense of control.
Reminds me of an anime short I saw a long time ago, I think it's from Tokyo Babylon. But I saw it on Liquid Television on MTV when I was just about 10 or so. This race track, where people raced cars they drove with their minds... and someone took it to the limit. I wish I remembered the dialogue, just the images stay in my head.
