on the job
Aug. 21st, 2001 10:52 pmRavenous by the time I got off work, I feverishly devoured a bowl of corn flakes while powering up the computer. It's been a pretty good day.
Surprise visit from alexpgp. Very disappointing that I had just started register training and couldn't take a break to talk more with him. Perhaps the next time he's driving between Texas and Colorado we can have lunch or something. Took me all day to figure out that he reminded me of a deacon at my church, in his bearing and his voice. Thanks so much for stopping by and I'm glad you're weren't the government.
So I learned a crazy assortment of codes, how to play with a cash register again, various random bits of policy and many other things. Spent a few hours trying the straighten one of my sections, photography. My arm hurts now from hefting books around.
Already I'm acquiring a stack of books on my shelf in the break room. I found Guy Gavriel Kay's Fionavar Tapestry series, all three volumes with the same dust jackets as the ones from my childhood. I am absolutely thrilled, and they're coming home with me as soon as I get paid. Also found an interesting book on Nikolai Gogol's sexuality and his writing.
My coworkers are a friendly bunch, and all seem quite cool. Tyson recognized me from Hana's Nabokov class two years ago.
Tired and dusty, and still hungry. But happy with the day.
