18th century Czech religous books
Oct. 17th, 2001 10:04 amWearing my blue jean jacket and my furry Russian shapka from Prague today, since it's just the littlest bit colder. I long for the biting air of the early morning tram stops, red fingers curled around the metal pole, the swaying lurch of the tram around the bend by the Castle.
Hana showed me a Psalm book from 1735 and a Bible from 1722. Some Czech chemist in Texas has been keeping these precious family relics on the shelf at home. Perhaps they should be protected in a museum in Prague. Beautiful leatherbound books, with metal, heavy type. Scratches onthe Bible cover, where it had been hidden in the wall during the times one oculd not keep a Bible at home. Amazing what survives.
