American Afternoon
Jun. 24th, 2002 11:27 amA weekend of odd contrasts. Driving to Houston at speeds well above legal, and returning at a sedate 65mph. (Though it is nice to know all those curves can be taken at 20 miles over the posted limit) Went to brunch at the country club and watched American Pie and its sequel.
Brunch was hilarious. Melynda took me just so I would stop teasing her about it. It was oddly like the country club in that Simpsons episode. Parking lot of every luxury car one could want. Ice sculpture in the middle of the foyer. Multiple pieces of silverware. Cocktail shrimp and omelets and beef and green beans and chocolate covered strawberries. Lots of people in their Sunday best. Little girl with pigtails and a red version of Dorothy's dress. I kept looking for a little dog under their table.
I spent my Sunday afternoon listening to Liz Phair poolside, reading. Quite nice.
So we watched both of the American Pie movies. Alright, they are funny in a weird sort of way. They remind me very much of being a teenager, and all that dumb stuff we thought was incredibly funny. The only thing about them that bothers me is that everyone ends up happy. Everyone gets laid. No, that's not how it happens. Someone always winds up on the outside, someone always gets hurt in the end. Well. At least the soundtrack is good, right?
