Because it creeps me out to no end when my horoscope starts talking about things I've been thinking about.

Only you know exactly what you need right now, Gemini. Do what you
need to do, no matter how unpopular it makes you. Don't let how other
people feel influence your judgment.

Last night was endless and strange. It's an amusing and scary thing that I wind up holding court at Metro, for lack of a better phrase, over an eight to nine hour span with a revolving cast of characters. I think my phone beeped at me more yesterday than it has in an entire week. But it's a good thing, to talk of bee keeping in epic Latin poetry, Harry Potter, American politics, socialized medicine, friendships, insane things done when we were teenagers, candy, cards, academia, CO2, and possibly eight million more things I've forgotten now.

I had a profoundly good conversation with Nick, and in doing so realized that all his flighty quirks of personality only remind me of someone long lost. We talked about ambition, motivation, desire and relationships between friends and lovers.

Later on I taught Elisa to play cards, and Derek and I told her ridiculous stories about the crazy shit we pulled off in high school journalism. (Gods, I hadn't thought about the golden fist in ages, or the fact that I stole Derek's bathrobe and held onto it for months.) Thought we were crazy but we were so strong together, thought we'd go one forever...

Thomas came by, looking very snazzy and academic, even wearing real shoes for a change. Towards the end of the evening, I managed to render a perfectly good lighter useless. Everything was much relieved by purchasing a chicken taco salad that was almost inhaled in my over-caffienated state.

I have to go through my pie recipes, and pick out some likely ones before Melynda comes home this evening. We are leaving tomorrow night for Houston, and coming back on Thursday for the UT vs A&M game. Through Nick's kindness, I have a ticket, so I will be one of those tiny burnt orange and white blips on the screen jumping up and down. Football is only really fun with Melynda. Otherwise I'd have no interest in it all.

The Red Violin is a lovely film that follows an unusual instrument over centuries and owners. One of my favorite parts is the scene with Jason Flemyng and Greta Scacchi, where he plays a brilliant new piece after their tryst in his dressing room. This movie is full of brilliant moments, and the sad sense of a long history that weaves through so many lives.

Orange juice and cigarettes.
Here I am.
