machine love
Nov. 26th, 2002 11:37 amThere is a computer downstairs, a black shiny new piece of hardware from Dell that runs the goofy XP and connects me back to the other world. It is not nearly as interesting as the computer Wes had mounted on the side of his desk, with its tubes full of water and the radiator strapped on top. Not to mention the $200 set up for playing Steel Battalion on the XBox. But, the keyboard clacks and the plastic feels new and stiff under my fingers, so all is well.
Made the drive last night in about 2 and a half hours, including a ten minute stop in Columbus for food. It goes faster at night, I think. We went to the House of Pies, which is like a Dennys but with a couple dozen different kinds of pie. Wes and Melynda and I held a far reaching conversation of no genuine importance. But it is good to know the boy has a six figure contract to put a company catalog online, and the intricacies of GRE testing, and such.
The dreaming is still strong, in the background of everything I do.
To the store, to buy pie making things, and I'm sure we will go out tonight to this amazing tacky bar. Houston is full of ridiculous neon wonders.
