we follow the Master
Dec. 24th, 2002 04:40 pmMy mother, my sister and I went to see The Two Towers this afternoon, and it made me snicker to hear the English version of Taty's beautiful club land lesbian love song. I grumped about the incorrect translation and sat through far too many commercials before we even started seeing a number of dismal previews. This business of showing commercials before the movies sucks, in my opinion. (Though I really do want to know what on earth the name of the music in that Volvo commercial is...)
The only preview that looked remotely interesting was for a pirate movie. I kid you not. We all want to see Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom as pirates.
The movie, as ever, is intense and beautiful beyond compare. I'm so enamoured of the CG work on Gollum, and they certainly deserve an Oscar for that. There's so much death and darkness in this one. The tear of fearful awe that drips from Wormtongue is a nice touch, and I like watching the uruk-hai and the orcs argue over eating Merry and Pippin. The facial expressions of various characters are so into the reality of the moment.
The sky looks the same today as it did a year ago, when I was racing homewards from the first movie. Lines high, and it is hard to believe this isn't a matte painting.
Thank you and you for the wonderful Christmas cards. I will add them to the mantle with Joi's.
