I have been sleeping off and on today, reading Henry James and lazing about. Since Cate has tomorrow off, I decided to stay another night at the Little House. Started writing this weird monologue about histories, but I don't know if I will finish. Great American novel still not done, but soap opera has made great strides.

I love the floor, because it is cool underfoot but never freezing. It's smooth, but not completely blank. It's just a pleasing surface to walk on, look at, sit on, everything. I think I want a floor like this one day.

Now that I've slept most of the afternoon away in random naps, I may be up all night.

Watched a super cool PBS version of "Hound of the Baskervilles." When I read Holmes as a kid, I didn't pick up on all the weirdness to his character, especially the morphine use. And man did I forget how creepy this story was. Ian Hart was the most fabulous Watson I've ever seen. Exactly like I imagined him, like I wanted to be. Because I never wanted to be the main character, I wanted to be one of the cool supporting cast.
