Overly ambitious and most likely gave up the ghost on the cutting room floor. There were great things in there, but not enough and too many all at once. One just felt as if there were serious pieces missing from this movie.
I like movies like this because this is the sort of thing I try not to think about on a daily basis. But I think if you're going to believe in God and miracles and redemption, you're going to have to acknowledge the other side exists as well.
There's a whole essay waiting in the wings about faith and knowledge, and the temptation towards evil, but that will have to wait until I think it through more.
Weirdly, I think half the cast of A Knight's Tale was in this film, so maybe they just travel around looking for group projects? Who knows. Heath Ledger in priestly garb does not inspire pious thoughts in me.
