We ate at anew restaraunt on the way home, because we were starving and I vaguely remembered reading about it in a review last week. It's always a crapshoot, eating in new little places and especially in one that's taken over a spot that used to be a Golden Corral when I was thirteen.

Golden Bay is my new favorite Chinese place. I'm the kind of person who likes to find one Chinese restaraunt and stick to it faithfully, which I think makes Alan a little crazy. But this place exceeded any expectation I had, and I'm dying to get back for their dim sum.

We had the dumplings, which were fat and tasty. My meal, shrimp and scallops with honey glazed walnuts, made me swoon with it's scrumptious shellfish and crisp steamed vegetables. I love glazed walnuts, which is why I order dishes like this. I was impressed with the taste and texture of the scallops, which were clearly well cooked.

Alan had a half order of braised duck with various meats, and they served him a giant platter loaded with bok choy and leeks, half a duck, squid, chicken, scallops, shrimp and beef. The sauce had a mystery smokey flavor to it. It was incredibly rich, and way more food than one person needed.

Our meal, before tip, was less than $30 and we have some leftovers.

Oh the best part was after the waiter brought the check. He came out with a little plate of dessert for us. They were little balls of sticky rice covered in sesame seeds and filled with a plum paste. I've never had it before, and was bowled over by the deliciousness. It wasn't really sweet, but had a full taste that we loved.

Golden Bay has some interesting and unusual offerings on their menu, which I can't wait to try. It was a shame that the place was empty except for us! Much as I will enjoy my new place and the ease of getting a seat, I'd like to see them do well.

We watched the waiter chase a big fat grouper round and round the tank with a net while we ate. It was kind of funny, as the fish was sly and slippery.
