summer light
Jul. 8th, 2005 09:44 amI drove home, northwest towards the clouds. I rolled my window down and breathed deeply, trying to catch the scent of water. I could see the lightning from the highway, flashes concealed in the clouds and a couple of blinding streaks off in the distance. The day before was torment, when the sky was dirty grey and gold without water. But last night it rained softly.
It's dropped the temperature significantly, and I hope there will be more. I stood outside in the driveway, smoking. There's nothing more wonderful than rain on hot concrete in the middle of summer.
