Aug. 22nd, 2005 03:59 pmYesterday I attended the massive LOTR screening at the downtown Alamo Drafthouse. It was an incredible thing, with all the food and the extended cuts of the first two films. (Apparently the extended version of ROTK wasn't ever made into theater format?) It started at 10:30 in the morning and lasted a bit over twelve hours with breaks. A truly incredible experience, I have to say and one I'll write more about later I suppose.
The insanity of the day was this. I drove downtown at 9am and scored sweet street parking, a block down on Colorado and in front of the Bitter End Brewery and pub. All was fine, until we smelled smoke in the theater and the manger informed us that the Bitter End was on fire. I hauled ass out of the theater on the first break and could hardly see my car for the fire trucks and smoke. You can see my poor red car in the KXAN footage. I ran to a police officer and he told me that the car was fine, nothing had fallen on it and if they needed to move it they would drag it down to the next block. I called Rach in hysterics over the car, and called Tyler to warn him I might need a ride home if a bloody burning building fell on my car. In the end it was alright, just covered in ash and some splash marks from the hoses.
I almost wish the building had fallen on the car. Today it nearly died. The clutch is fucked and it is at the mechanic right now. Maybe I'll just drag it back to the Scion dealership and just buy a new damned car that won't give me heart attacks!
