night watch
Mar. 11th, 2006 03:12 pmSo I went to see Nochnoi Dozor this morning. It was intriguing, and far better than I expected it to be. I can't wait to see the rest of the trilogy. It's a lovely film, and I dig the special effects. I like the idea of Moscow as ground zero for the apocalypse. I suppose the basic premise is standard, the war between light and dark and what is going to upset the balance. It has its own flavor though, and enough hook to keep your eyes on the screen.
They also showed some good previews. Shoot me, I love movie trailers. Brick has this film noir shadow to it, and I really want to see it. Thank You for Smoking looks hilarious. It's about a tobacco lobbyist, or as they say in the preview "yuppie mephistopheles." Hah! I have got to see this. The trailer for A Scanner Darkly looks amazing, and I have such high hopes for this. It's been years since I read the novel, and I want to see how they're going to pull this off. Haven't they been working on this for years?
Weirdest of all was the teaser for American Dreamz. It's a satire of American Idol with Hugh Grant as Simon. Seriously. What a bizarro idea. I wonder who thought such a self referential film would be worth making? It's just weird enough that I may have to watch it. Come on, it has a show tune singing Arab terrorist and Mandy fucking Moore singing the most stupid song I've ever heard. I can't not watch something that messed up.
I exchanged my clothes that didn't fit, and got new ones. I even bought a skirt, something I haven't done for years. It's two sizes smaller than the jeans I'm wearing today and it fits. I like it. It occured to me that I had nothing to wear anywhere if I had to dress nicer than jeans but not so nice as my slacks and button down shirt. Melynda is still three sizes ahead of me, so I must keep doing my exercise so I can borrow her clothes.
It feels like summer outside. I think it is nearly 90. I'm wearing the earrings Kythryne sent me, with tiny crystal beads and bits of blue goldstone caught in wings of wire. They are so impossibly perfect.
