facts, not opinions
Jul. 14th, 2006 06:03 pmSomething's bad crazy in the air right now. Earlier today I was talking to a cop from El Paso, and he said this was the third time this week he went out on that brand of crazy bad wrong and he was already sick of it. I had multiple calls today that involved animal abuse as well as people abuse, and that alone really brought me down. One call made me want to scrub my ears out with bleach. I know it's not just me, because my coworkers are all screaming and wandering around with that dazed look from the facility calls and cranky psychotic people on the line. It's weird, and I'm about ready for that to stop. Summer is supposed to be out downtime. It's not happening and that's making us all a bit frazzled.
Things will be much happier come weekend time. At the end of the day I'm tired and staring at my computer screen gives me a headache. My work computer died three times yesterday. Apparently we have faulty motherboards, and there's a rolling wave of computer black outs in the office. Too bad they aren't replacing those when we move. Did I mention we're moving? How in the world do you move a 24 hour hotline? In the middle of the night apparently, and over an entire weekend in a giant mess. I am so so so not looking forward to that.
I don't know about the rest of you, but in third grade we had a lesson on facts and opinions. It was a good lesson, and one of the keys points is that facts are true, and opinions can not be said to be true or false. Most people I know remember this lesson, or something like it. Every now and then I run across a person who doesn't know this, and it makes my brain hurt. If you're arguing that your opinion is true, you instantly lose all credibility in my eyes. Facts are true, opinions are not true. Calling me childish, calling me Bill O'Reilly or implying that I'm just too stupid to follow your words doesn't suddenly make your opinion a fact and true. It just makes you look like an idiot.
At the end of the day, I look forward to going home, and throwing myself down on the sofa. Maybe I should treat myself to another go round with pirates. The Drafthouse was serving a tasty mango turnover with coconut ice cream. What I'm really craving is fried fish and macaroni from Lubys. I am contemplating treating myself to the best comfort food I know tomorrow after work.
In completely pointless news - I look really cute in my sunglasses. Life is good.
