What I should have done is just gotten out of bed at 4am when I woke up the first time. Going back to sleep only sent me into some truly horrific nightmares. Ever have a panic attack in a dream? Wake up actually having that panic attack and gasping for air because some bipedal squid like creature was tring to drown you? It was a little bit Lovecraftian, I'll admit, but it scared the hell out of me. I'm surprised I didn't scream.

It's chilly this morning, but our temperatures will be in the 70s and 80s this week. That's right. Envy us, all you people trapped in snow.

House of Plenty: The Rise, Fall and Revival of Luby's was just published in October by the University of Texas press. I really need to read this. Luby's Cafeteria holds a dear place in my head, as a childhood memory and as perhaps the ultimate comfort food in my life. This food tastes like my north Texas grandma's cooking. This is the only place I eat macaroni and cheese. I have eaten the exact same meal at Luby's since I was five years old. I don't plan on ever changing that meal either. When I'm old, decrepit and senile, hopefully this memory will be seared into my brain and I will never go without its comfort. (For the record, I eat the fried fish (fish rectangle!), a double serving of macaroni and cheese, and a dinner roll with unsweet iced tea. Sometimes I have chocolate ice box pie.) I ate in Luby's this weekend actually, and saw they are reissuing the Luby's cookbook! Awesome. They put one out for their 50th anniversary but it's out of print and hard to come by these days.

Seriously, I don't think I'll ever understand the thinking of some people. Letting a registered sex offender move into your home when he gets out of jail? The whole reason the guy was in jail was for molesting your daughter! People, gah. What an ugly twisted mess.

Work has been full of the stupid. I had one of those screamers. "Well I guess we'll just have to wait for the child to die before you do anything!" Um, well, a child death would be reportable. But mother leaving the kid with a babysitter is not child abuse, and mother going missing is not child abuse. That's really something that needs police intervention. (I keep thinking that poor woman has probably been kidnapped and here the family is trying to have her cited for neglect.) Whiskey tango foxtrot people?

I'm going to cleanse my brain of this nonsense by going to see the new James Bond film. The new Bond is hot, in an evil sort of way. I'm really looking forward to it. This day has made me pull at my hair in frustration, literally. I had to leave the building at lunch and just drive around.

Hands down, this is the best Bond film I've seen in ages. After much reflection, I've decided I want to be Daniel Craig when I grow up. His Bond is exceptional, and is one of the few men in the world that makes a bow tie look hot. The movie was intensely enjoyable, the chases and battles nail biting and ended with a semi-expected but cutthroat twist. The Venice sequence was cool. I cried a little when that car went boom because oh man, what a nice car. Can I move to Montenegro and become a professional gambler? Love love love.
