Today I attended a profoundly interesting training on psychosocial evaluations of individuals and families. The instructor was very engaging, very knowledgeable and good at bringing out the little hidden aspects of things. We talked about what differentiates hallucinations from delusions, how to assess for suicidal or homicidal behaviors, how to evaluate a family's bonding and support structure, and a lot of other things. I may type up some of my notes later on it.

It's cold, cold, cold. Fourty five flipping degrees.

The NY Times is running a series on children diagnosed with mental illnesses. I encourage you to read it, because these articles talk about things that you may have never ever encountered or imagined. The first story, about Haley, is especially good. I think the people in these articles are very brave in putting their faces to something that has so long been stigmatized and something that isolates people. One of the saddest realities I have ever encountered would be people too ashamed and fearful to ask for help, or say they have these problems.
