dog bite
Today was apparently not a good day if you were a pit bull. The story of a constable out of the Houston area was that he accidentally shot himself in the foot while trying to fend off a dog. I took a report on a kid getting bitten in the face by a dog while in the care of a babysitter. Apparently some poor woman outside of Abilene had a 110lb pit bull and she tried to stop it from fighting. The sheriff had to shoot the dog, and the woman lost both her arms. I can't imagine that was just a pit bull, being that big. It must have been a mix of something.
Dog breeds aren't inherently "bad" despite what the news may tell you. I've honestly never met a chow that I thought was sane or safe, but somewhere out there one may exist. Animals just have different purposes, and if you own an animal you must be aware of exactly what it can do. You have to train an animal, and care for an animal with the same attention you give to your baby, your gun, and your car all combined.
Nothing irritates me so much as idiots who buy animals.
I miss having a big dog around. I was always safe then, with the German Shepards sleeping in the house. Magic would walk from door to door, room to room. He would look in on each sleeping person, as faithful a guardian as I have ever seen. (And I did see him do this, many a late night.) He would come to the door when I came home late. Gods above I miss that dog. I have never known anyone half so good or so loyal. He was tall, and black with a white star on his chest. He never hurt me, not even by accident. I always knew Magic was there, and that he could probably kill anyone who came after me. My mother used to tell me that if he couldn't stop whatever it was, that he would give me time to get away. I don't doubt he would have.
My mother is breeding her dog, and will hopefully have lots and lots of puppies. I want one, terribly. I would be so much happier. But it wouldn't be kind to keep a large dog in an apartment, which no places to run and play. I need a house, with a yard and trees and squirrels to chase.
