all my words will fail

I've erased this entry four or five times, because it seems any eloquence I have is not actually present today. On the drive to work, I saw several hawks perched on the light poles of the highway. I've not ever seen more than one at once so it seems worth nothing. Another front is coming through, and the weather change makes my knees and my head hurt. Mostly I would just like to do all my work while laying down, but I don't think that will be feasible today. The office is noisy, and I just heard something so foul about a case that I don't think I'll be able to eat for the rest of the day. Schools are back in session, people return from their holidays and our phones light up like fireworks. At least the training office told me where I need to be on Friday.

In unrelated news, I have been listening to the Garden State soundtrack since last night, because it seems to go with the weather.

dystopian films are just my thing

Children of Men is finally opening in Austin this weekend. I really want to see this, and perhaps I'll be able to drag some of my friends along. I have yet to read the PD James novel but I have heard there are some moments of technical and cinematic brilliance to this adaptation that are worth seeing even apart from the story. I love dystopian fiction and film.

let go and jump in

The air smells like wood smoke and water, because of the cold and the past four hours of rain. The creek bed outside my balcony is rushing. I watched a couple hours of Russian animations this evening, strange pieces mostly from the sixties I think.

Everything sounds strange.
