I slept in my contacts, ugh. I don't know what I was thinking. Clearly, not thinking enough. It is not too bad, but I really don't want to make a habit of this. I was sort of confused when I got up and could read the small print on my face wash. My shoulders ache a little. Maybe it was from my weird dream about being on an airplane with Neil Gaiman and hiding from a dinosaur-esque monster.
Yesterday was productive. I baked another rum baba, and tweaked the recipe a little so as not to have the disasterous soggy dough problem again. (I think I must have mismeasured on the last one.) It kneaded up quite smoothly, and I'm always thrilled when the dough actually rises. That's one of my fears, that the dough just won't rise. I had exactly enough rum to make the syrup glaze too. It smelled so delicious. When cooking, you have to use the good rum. I am very fond of the Pyrat rum, because it has a vanilla sort of note that makes it especially suited for cakes. It's currently sitting on my desk here at work, waiting for this evening.
I also helped Mike paint many of his Warhammer miniatures. Despite slightly shaky hands, I think I managed to do a pretty good job of it. Hopefully the weapons have a slightly weathered, dirty look. With something that small, it is kind of hard to use that dry brush technique. It was fun though. I haven't painted anything in ages. We listened to Rammstein, ate sandwiches and painted for hours. I find these small concentrated tasks to be very soothing.
