every way but down
May. 1st, 2007 12:26 pmI spent most of yesterday afternoon asleep after my dental appointment. Xanax and nitrous will do that. On the bright side, my crown is fixed and all is well. The dentist has this fancy new machine that numbs everything as it works. Sort of bizarre, but it went well. My jaw ached a lot yesterday but it feels alright now. Even with all that sleeping, I went to bed by midnight and slept another seven hours.
Last night I went to the Funniest Person in Austin contest. One of the two guys I really liked made it into the semifinals. Dan did his entire routine as a drill sargent, which made jokes I've alreayd heard even more funny. Herbert told the Streisand joke which I love just because he yells "Nien!" very loudly. (And he has a German accent. What's not to love?) Possibly the most unintentionally funny moment of the evening was the last comedian, a skinny long haired hippie who clearly smokes way, way too much dope. There's probably nothing worse than watching a not funny stand up comic. It's really sort of painful and awkward, and there were a few of those. But overall, very entertaining.
I can hear at least two police sirens and a firetruck outside. It's been raining all morning. One accident was blocking a lane by the office, and I made it into work with one minute to spare. The weather made me not want to get out of bed. Well, the weather and the ache in my neck and back. I'm really, really, really ready for that to stop.
My supervisor is out of work today, so I'm pretending to be my supervisor for the afternoon. Fun times. I would apply for a supervisor position, except that I refuse to work overnight shifts anymore. I'm too old for that nonsense.
