stuffed cabbage rolls, weeds, HEB
Jan. 4th, 2009 04:50 pmThe front appears to be here much earlier than forecasted - I left the house in a tank top. It was brisk but not freezing. A man at the grocery store glared at me and muttered about me being out without a coat. I wanted to turn around and say, "You're not my father, leave me alone!" but I have tried to limit the crazy altercations at the HEB.
The beets were disappointing - soft and moldering. I will have to go to Whole Foods for some.
Yesterday I failed at my "write every day" goal. I did do many other things however so I don't feel bad about it. I pruned the tree/shrub/something in the corner of the yard, so it will grow tall and have many blue white flowers. I did some but not all of the weeding, pulling out the tenacious purple ground clover vines and the soft springy weeds. I watered the back yard, and read outside in the sunlight with a glass of tea. Now today my left arm and shoulder are murderously stiff.
We ate dinner at Drakula, delicious Romanian food. They've added a whole set of photos to their menu for people confused about what they might be getting. As ever, the cabbage rolls stuffed with meat and rolling in a bed of sauerkraut are divine pieces of comfort food. Afterwards there was Amy's ice cream. A group of three teenage boys behind us were living, breathing incarnations of South Park characters. It was as hilarious as it was annoying, right down to the "if creamofsomeyoungguy was an ice cream flavor..." I had the most wonderful cinnamon ice cream with mini-marshmallows and brought home a pint of Black Velvet.
