The guy who came to replace our DVR was Russian. He seemed very bemused by the Soviet posters in the living room. I gave him some chocolate chip cookies.

I did howl with laughter when John Oliver found the guy the in Batman costume with the sandwich board "Christian Bale Sucks" at the G20 protest. It's probably the first news item I've seen that hasn't hurt my brain in unpleasant ways.

Lately it all seems so unbearable. Grim and devastating. The kind of grind that makes every gesture and effort feel futile. Everything sort of scrapes my nerves raw. I think I need to go away, not read the news or the internet or anything for a few days. That is not going to happen until the end of the month though. I'm taking off work a few days to fly out and see Sarah.

Next year I'm turning thirty. It's a nice even number in a nice round year. I want to go somewhere for my birthday, because I haven't done much to celebrate in ages. I want to go sit on a beach somewhere for a few days and go swimming. I'm still looking for where I want to go. Much as I love icy, icy oceans I suppose I should look for somewhere Mike won't be too cold.
