of cakes and things
May. 20th, 2010 07:12 pmToday I ordered a birthday cake from Sweetish Hill. It's chocolate with mocha buttercream frosting and almond slices. I probably ordered more cake than I needed but I want to enjoy a cake I am not baking. I had a cake there for my 22nd birthday, decorated like the Czech flag. My boss at Half Price books ordered it for me.
Yesterday I was sad, and Mike brought me some cupcakes. One was chocolate with white frosting and chocolate chips sprinkled on top. The other was an incredibly moist coconut. Mmm cupcakes. I baked some brownies for Mike to take to work for Snack Thursday, and covered them with chocolate sauce and almonds.
Today work sent me a box of cookies to mark my two year anniversary. It seems the week will be full of sugar. Maybe it will finally sate that craving and I can move on over the summer.
The fandom happiness meme has brought me many moments of hilarity today.
I so wish I had the spare cash to buy some of the Thomas Canty art in the auctions to help Deb Mensinger with her liver transplant. It's so so so tempting. Or The Ruba'iya't of a Persian Kitten, by Oliver Herford.
In cooking news not sweet, I made these fantastic scrambled duck eggs with baby spinach and hashbrowns. They were perfect, the spinach was just barely cooked and the potatoes crispy. Mmm delicious. Tomorrow I am thinking about roasting some fish over cherry tomatoes, fennel and maybe some shallots.
